Thankfully he didn’t, though, because watching Matt turn into an actual human being was absolutely wonderful.ĭid Matt get a little “sweet” at the end? Maybe. That doesn’t mean there weren’t times where I felt James should have run for his life and never looked back. He has never had a loving, healthy relationship before, so when he and James begin to grow closer, it wasn’t so shocking that Matt would screw it up royally! I believe it is a testament to Scarlet Blackwell’s writing skills that I was actually happy for James and Matt by the end of the book. I can’t imagine how I would react to his situation.

There is something to be said for redeeming a character like Matt, especially when he appears to be completely irredeemable at points in the story. I like it when the story isn’t full of hearts and flowers one hundred percent of the time. For me, that makes the book just that much better. Blackwell has given us two polar opposite characters, and yes, one of them is a real JERK. Review: WOW! That was the first word that entered my mind when I sat down to write this review. Will Matt realize too late that James is the only one who can rescue him from himself? The bond they form is forged in fire and ice, and the wounds they inflict on one another can only be erased by Matt’s admission that he can’t live without James’s loving touch. The two men clash from the start as James struggles to help Matt rebuild his shattered body and heal his crushed soul. Hiring nurse James Hayden to look after him seems like the best idea for Matt, whose fierce independence has been compromised by his injuries.

At a Glance: All in all I loved this story, but it won’t be for everyone.īlurb: After a near fatal car crash leaves him scarred both physically and emotionally, Matt Harmon finds the solitude of his huge, lonely house too much to bear.
